A new survey released by Ernst & Young shows that environmental, social, and governance is the top long-term investment priority for chief financial officers globally. However, the respondents also stated they were more likely to cut ESG investments in order to meet near-term goals.
The EY Global DNA of the CFO Survey polled 1000 CFOs and financial leaders from 21 countries. 70% of the respondents represent organizations with revenues of between $1 billion and $5 billion per year and 30% with revenues exceeding $5 billion per year. The survey was focused on general outlook of CFOs, with ESG just being one component.
The survey showed that ESG was tied for the top long-term investment priority. Respondents could list their top three priorities for the next three years. ESG was tied with technology and digital innovation at 43%. The other available categories were supply chain resilience (37%), customer experience and offerings (34%), portfolio optimization (34%), ecosystems and partnerships (29%), geographic market entry or exit (28%), and talent and culture (20%).
